Dave is upset by our lack of blog entries so here is an update…
Left home EVENTUALLY at 10:30pm on Thursday night (after a trip to Morrissons to feed Marcus for a fortnight (!!!) and some basics for The Van, some frantic packing and sorting Marcus as he had run out of petrol) – and finally turned the light off in Poole dock queuing lanes at 1:30am…
A little man knocked us up at 6:20am and Dave answered the door in his boxers (!) – and we caught the 8:30am nice (small) cruise ferry.
Full English Breakfast x 2, bit of a sunbathe and watched Red Dragon (seriously ACE film – watch it !!!) on the iPad.
4 and a 1/4 hour crossing so off at 1:45pm local time – Dave did the honours again and after a couple of wrong turns, checked into a campsite at Granville (past home of Christian Dior) – went to supermarket and a LUVLEY BBQ tea outside accompanied by a glass or two…
Shower, marital relations resumed (well we ARE on us holidays !!!) and tucked up at 10:30pm.
Up (local time) at 7:50am, breakfast and off – destination Vannes…
More soon…
Me and My Dave Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Well, we didn’t make the Ireland tour. Joe passed and we had to attend to all the necessaries. So we got a credit note and now we are off to western and northern France for a couple of weeks.
It’s been a long ride in heavy rain so Dave and I have given him the night off from cooking. This place will do!
Amazing place – it’s dedicated mostly to bikes. Magazines, old and new in piles to browse. Pics on the walls of French motorcycle racing stars. Even one of Barry Sheene himself.
The bar was a boat. Well, half of one anyway with bands on mosts nights. Food was good and the bar staff – err – delightful 🙂
Recommended. Big time.
Plumbed for a random campsite that turned out to be a bit of a gem. Cracking views Grommet.
As below, we met Eric and Christian and [an-other] in the bar. They spoke no English and we no French. Apart from Mick’s excuse for a foreign language course that he conned work to pay for, clearly.
But the iTranslate app was the perfect remedy for our lack of conversational ability. After a few short exchanges, we were friends for life and knew lots about them. They even sang the French National Anthem to us in the name of friendship.
Amazing what a bit of conversation does!
Some excerpts from the iTranslate app conversation…
On recommendation from another campsite’r, we went to see the stones at Carnac. Over 1000 of them all lined up.
Not exactly exciting but harder to pitch than a tent I should imagine.
Well, at least we saw them.
